FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG UNTIL I CAN USE A SHOWER AFTER IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED?

You can normally use your showerscreen 24 hours after installation unless advised otherwise. This is to allow sufficient time for silicone to dry, sealing and holding the screen in position. It is recommended not to touch or play with the shower (opening and closing the door, cleaning etc.) until after the silicone is set.

WHEN CAN I CLEAN A NEWLY INSTALLED PRODUCT?

You can clean your new product once the silicone is set usually 24 hours after installation unless advised otherwise.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLEAR GLASS AND LOW IRON GLASS?

There is no structural or strength differences between clear and low iron glasses of the same thickness. The difference comes down to the amount of iron in the glass which produces a green tinge in its complexion. Clear glass has a slight green tinge which is highlighted on glass splashbacks and because of this it is recommended to use low iron glass for splashbacks unless the colour is a shade of black, green, brown or red.

DOES SKELETON GLASS REMOVE OLD SHOWERS AND MIRRORS?

Yes, we can remove your old showerscreens and mirrors if you are only looking to do a minor renovation that does not require a full demolition of your bathroom. We can normally measure your new showers and mirrors while the existing screens are still in place and replace them the same day so you are not without a shower or mirror while we manufacture your new products.

DOES SKELETON GLASS SEAL THE SHOWERSCREENS, MIRRORS AND SPLASHBACKS WHEN THEY INSTALL THEM?

Yes we seal all our showers, mirrors and splashbacks we install in a neutral cure non acidic, mould resistant silicone.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM A MEASURE TO INSTALLATION?

Mirrors, Sliding Wardrobe Doors, Framed and Semi-frameless Showers all usually take 5-7 working days from a site measure to install. Frameless Showerscreens and Glass Splashbacks usually take 10-14 working days from a site measure to install however, some Frameless showerscreens can take longer due to complex shapes that require additional templates and site visits. Most Frameless showerscreens with a door take at least two site visits.

HOW DO YOU HELP PREVENT MIRRORS GETTING EDGECREEP (BLACK EDGES/SPOTS)?

We have a strenuous method of installing our mirrors to help prevent edgecreep. The back of the mirror must be completely covered in a neutral cure non acidic silicone with no room for air spots, foreign matter or moisture to contaminate the silver backing. The edge, polished or otherwise must also be completely sealed in a neutral cure non acidic silicone. This process oozes silicone outward and then gets cleaned off neatly with a rubber glass spatula.

PRODUCT MAINTANANCE GUIDELINES

- To clean, lightly spray the face of the glass or mirror with a reputable brand of glass cleaner,
following the manufacturer’s on pack instructions.
- Alternatively, add a few drops of methylated spirits to a clean, nonabrasive damp cloth then
wipe the glass or mirror. Buff with a clean lint free cloth for a streak free finish.
- Mirrors should only be cleaned when cool to touch and should never be cleaned while in
direct sunlight
- The surface of mirrors requires special care when cleaning. It is particularly important to
ensure that there is no contact between the mirror backing material and the cleaning solution - particular care should be taken to prevent contact at the edges of the mirror. If the backing material
is contacted with the cleaning solutions irreversible degradation of the mirror may result.
- Moisture, and particularly liquid chemical cleaners, should be kept away from the back and
edges of mirrors, this may result in the edges of the plate glass bathroom mirrors de-silvering, or losing the silver coating on the back of the mirror. The result is a jagged, blackened marking along the edge and corner of your mirror. This damage is typical in bathroom settings due to repeated exposure to moisture and cleaning supplies that seep behind the mirror. De-silvering is not covered
in your warranty
- Diamond rings should not be worn when cleaning glass or mirrors. Toughened safety glass is subject to breakage from scratches.
- Take extra care when cleaning coated high performance glass.
- Frameless bathroom mirrors should be silicone sealed on all edges to help resist penetration
of moisture behind the mirrors or cleaning supplies that may otherwise seep behind the mirror and cause damage
- Failure to follow care instructions may cause damage to your mirrors and void the guarantee.
